Quintana Roo goes for the consolidation of the so-called digital nomads segment,
after international rankings ranked Playa del Carmen as the fifth international
city preferred by these new business travelers.
This was reported by Marco Antonio Bravo Fabián, director of the Quintana Roo Institute
of Innovation and Technology, who explained that digital nomads are people dedicated
to information technologies, from architects of mobile applications, specialized software
developers, people dedicated to advertising design or some others specialized in the
development of pay-per-click campaigns, whose work can be done remotely from a computer,
allowing them to travel around different cities of the world.
The official explained that the ranking that places Playa del Carmen in fifth place
internationally is the so-called Coworking, but there are other lists that elaborate
different agencies such as the Nomad List, where Cancun is on the site number 17 above
other cities such as Richmond, Stockholm or Los Angeles. In this last ranking they
value varied aspects such as internet speed, security, air quality, cost of living,
climate, nightlife, among others.
Although he acknowledged that there is still no record of the number of travelers
that the Mexican Caribbean is capturing, it is evident the importance they are
charging, as different hotels in the area are modifying their spaces to offer
connectivity with latest generation fiber optic to ensure optimal speeds of connection
to Internet that allow the development of any remote activity, from videoconferences
to data transmission with great stability.
Bravo Fabián gave as an example the most recent investment of 2 million dollars by
Original Group in the three resorts that they have in Cancun and the Riviera Maya
to introduce optical fiber in the buildings and provide them with the best digital
connectivity in the entire Mexican Caribbean.
