A flight to Cancun from the United Arab Emirates could finally take place.

After half a decade of negotiations, a flight to Cancun from the United Arab Emirates could finally take place in the coming months, with a stop at Barcelona, said Lizzie Cole Guerrero, member of the Trust for the promotion of Tourism of the Municipality of Benito Juárez.

In a press conference, she indicated that within the framework of the Arabian Travel Market, Emirates Airlines announced the opening of a flight to Mexico City with a stopover in Barcelona, which will encourage the influx of high-purchasing tourism into the Mexican Caribbean, because it is the main tourist destination of Mexico.

According to data provided, the new connection would be with an A380 or a Boeing 777, which represents more than 350 seats per flight.

This is an operation that would first arrive in Mexico City with passengers leaving from Dubai, a market with enormous regional potential because it would also attract Hindu tourism, new markets for tourists with high purchasing power for the Mexican Caribbean.

Cole Guerrero, former director of the Office of Visitors and Conventions (OVC) and current officer of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (Cptqroo), explained that it is a flight from Dubai, with a stopover in Barcelona and arrival in the City of Mexico, and he hoped that in the rest of the year a frequency could be achieved with destination to Cancun.

“It was a long time since we were waiting for that flight to connect us with the Arab world. Darío Flota Ocampo is now in the Arabian Travel Market, which takes place in Dubai every year and in which he has already participated several times, “he said.

The interviewee stressed that after years of negotiations to bring a flight with the Emirates or Qatar Airways airlines for Mexico as a first instance, it will finally be possible to reach it.

He stressed that although this flight arrives in the country, eventually the idea is to have one for Cancun.

He stressed that being Cancun-Riviera Maya the main destination in the country, the flight will bring the Mexican Caribbean closer to one of the main markets in terms of purchasing power, and that Dubai is a very relevant hub for India.

“The new flight is bringing us closer to a market that was not easy to touch,” he said.
