Ritz Carlton Cancun celebrates 25 years with new expansion project.

The Ritz Carlton Cancun hotel, the first of this luxury chain to open outside the US, celebrates its 25th anniversary this week with new expansion projects and the construction of two residential towers, announced today Enrique Molina Sobrino, owner of the property.

The Ritz Carlton Residences project is already in the final phase of procedures so they hope that in 2019 can begin the construction of the first two towers that will be part of the luxury complex, each with 100 residences.

“It will be five towers in total, but first we will do two, it is a project of more than 200 million dollars,” explained Molina Sobrino.

The new residences will be for sale for families looking to live near the sea, but with the characteristic style of the luxury hotel chain. The maintenance and cleaning of the hotel will also be in charge of the hotel.

He added that they are in the last phase of renovation of the restaurant Fantino, considered one of the best of the Ritz Carton chain, and also adapting the eighth floor so that families can live with their children.

Enrique Molina indicated that the key to the success of Ritz Carlton Cancun is the maximum care of the facilities and the detailed attention of the service provided by the “ladies and gentlemen” who work in it.

“It took me 22 months to do it, they told me that I was half crazy about finishing, but I’m a perfectionist, I did it like it was my house and then I took care of it as my home,” he said.

The Yucatecan businessman recalls that after a long process to convince the owners of the Ritz-Carlton brand to accept to operate the hotel in Cancun, it became the spearhead of the chain’s expansion project in the Caribbean and Europe.

“It was very difficult because they already had between 8 or 9 hotels in the main cities of the United States, but they did not have a beach tour, this was the first hotel of the Ritz Carlton outside of the United States and that's why they could start doing other hotels, “he explained.

Molina recalled that a US hotelier told him 25 years ago that it was very difficult to develop a project in Mexico because he could not offer a quality service with the Ritz-Carlton standards.

“I answered that almost all of his waiters and some of his employees were Latino, Mexican, we have the best people, the most noble and hardworking, all they need is training,” he said.

Molina stressed that of the hundred hotels in the Ritz-Carlton, Cancun is the best: it is number 1 in recognition of guests and number 2 in food and beverages.
