Quintana Roo bets for two new tourist markets: Australia and India

The Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo (CPTQ) will focus the rest of resources for 2018 (just over 200 million pesos) to promote destinations in the Mexican Caribbean in Australia and India, said Darío Flota Ocampo, head of the agency.

In a conversation with La Jornada Maya , during the celebration of the Day of the Travel Agent, he added that the airline Turkish Airlines plans to operate in 2019 a direct flight between Istanbul and Mexico City through which it is estimated to attract the Indian segment, which is “Very high purchasing power”.

The executive commented that “we start from the 220 million pesos that Congress approved (last year) for the trusts; of that budget there is a part that was already exercised this year, there is a part, like 60 million, there are 160 and we have already made an application and the governor has authorized, in principle, an extension of 150 million more “.

In addition, “another request was made for 88 million pesos, they are around 400 million pesos, which we hope they will answer affirmatively and that is the initial budget exclusively for promotion,” explained the turistero.
“There is a new market for which we have a planned campaign: Australia for the first time. It is a market in which we are interested because Australians travel a lot and their holidays are long. They have a tradition of traveling and as they are far from anywhere, traveling many hours is normal for them, “he said.
“Finally, insisting on a market means that someone expresses interest and begins to consider the possibility”, referring to the announcement of the airline Turkish Airlines, which plans to operate in 2019 a direct flight between Istanbul and Mexico City through the that will attract the Hindu segment, with high purchasing power.

Weeks ago, the Turkish flag airline announced its interest to fly to Mexico City. Currently it reaches 302 destinations around the planet and is the airline with the most international connections; However, among them is not yet Mexico: “It’s great news, a great high-quality airline in nearby Asia.”
In that sense, another airline, Emirates is in plans to begin joining airway to the capital of the United Arab Emirates and the Cdmx at the end of 2018.

“The Emirates flight that starts in November on the Dubai-Barcelona-Mexico City route opens the possibility, above all, for the Indian market, in which we are interested in arriving, especially in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
“It is a market of great purchasing power and that we are not receiving because it is very complicated for them to get here; they do it through connections in England or the United States, it is one of the farthest parts of the globe, “he said.

These are the two new markets for which the Mexican Caribbean is betting for 2018, Darío Flota said.
